Opening paragraph of literary fiction — too slow?

Literary fiction, and I'm worried my opening is too slow to earn the reader's patience. Does this make you want to keep going or set it down? 'The kettle had been screaming for some time before Eleanor noticed it. She stood at the window watching the Hendersons' cat cross the frostbitten lawn, one deliberate paw after another, and thought about nothing in particular. Somewhere upstairs a floorboard settled, the way old houses sigh when they think no one is listening. It was the first morning in forty years she had made tea for one.'
